Our livestream audio is inconsistent. What can we do?

The hardest thing in the tech booth is still the audio. Is that surprising? With all the technological innovations of the last decades, the audio mixer is still the most difficult piece of equipment to manage.

The hardest part of all is to nail the mix on your church livestream. That’s hard for a few reasons.

Live, in your sanctuary, the audio system is just adding to what is already there. As long as the mix is close, your brain will do some work to help you. But a livestream? It is as finicky as recording an album, where tiny differences are easily noticed by the average person. It’s hard.

Knowing that, there are a few tools we can leverage to improve the situation. The best tool you have is to have someone mix the audio for your livestream outside of the sanctuary. If they don’t hear the speakers in your sanctuary, it is much easier for them to get a good mix.

(Does that sound complex? It doesn’t have to be, as long as you have a digital audio mixer).

That’s not expensive, but it does take an additional volunteer. There are a few ways around that, as well, on days you are short on volunteers.

Want to talk more about the logistics of improving this? Sometimes we are just restructuring how we organize volunteers! I’d love to chat!
