How To Make Social Media Work
Having trouble on social media? We often think of social media as one step more complicated than expected. After all, most of us have social media accounts…we know how to use social media, right?
Except, at work, we aren’t getting the results we hope for. Our nonprofit’s content isn’t doing as well as we would like.
To improve this, we have a few tips.
First, an important principle. Your goal is shares, not likes. It’s great when people “like” your content. That’s a great start. But you should aim for content that is shareable. A Share is worth far more to your nonprofit than a like. That’s worth thinking about at length: your goal is to get shares, not likes.
So how can we create shareable content?
The basic idea is simple, but the execution is tough. Basically, we want to create content your followers will want to share. Simple to understand, right? Not quite as easy to do.
Alright, here are a few ideas you should consider:
Create Inspiring Content
This furthers your mission, particularly if you combine it with important story-telling principles. Tell a great inspiring story, and chances of people sharing it go up.
Create Informative Content
Most nonprofits need to show themselves as a subject matter expert. Lots of people won’t care. But if you’re targeting your audience well, the people that do care will really enjoy informative content. This also furthers your (likely) mission of informing people about your cause.
Create Fun Content
Depending on your nonprofit’s identity, you might have space to share fun content in the same way many other organizations do.
Finally, let me direct you to a helpful resource. The 2024 Nonprofit Communications Trends Report from Nonprofit Marketing Guide gives insight into what other nonprofits are communicating about. This report also has some helpful insight into how well these various strategies are working.
We know this can be overwhelming, particularly in under-staffed nonprofits. At Capital Hope Media, we can help lift that burden off your shoulders. Schedule a meeting with us, and let’s talk about ways we can do a portion of your nonprofit’s communications work.
